Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva (1449-1568) emerged as a multi-dimensional genius, profoundly impacting and modernizing Assamese society with his egalitarian ideology. His influence extended across various domains including religion, literature, music, dance, drama, architecture, and social reconstruction. Notably, he undertook the monumental task of translating a significant portion of the Bhagavata Mahapurana into Assamese, marking him as the first playwright in any Indian language apart from Sanskrit. Sankaradeva authored over 26 scriptures primarily in Assamese, alongside compositions in the Brajawali form and one in Sanskrit. Moreover, he composed numerous lyrics and songs, including the Borgeets. Such diverse contributions led his most loyal disciple, Madhabadeva, to aptly dub him SARVAGUNAKARA, signifying his embodiment of all virtues and talents.
