In the early 20th century, educational opportunities were predominantly concentrated in major cities, leaving secondary level education inaccessible at the tehsil and village levels. Aspiring students were required to relocate to district headquarters to pursue their education, encountering challenges in securing proper residential facilities at these locations. Recognizing these challenges, the trustees of the time made a courageous decision to address this issue and initiated a boarding facility for such students in Ahmednagar, a district center. This boarding was established in the year 1918, with the trustees funding the initiative through their personal contributions, as there was no government assistance at the time. Acknowledging this noble endeavor, the Late Rajashri Shau Maharaj of Kolhapur began providing annual grants in memory of Maharshi Chouthe Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, who met his demise in captivity at Ahmednagar.
