The University of Allahabad has always held a prestigious position among India’s universities for more than a century. It was established on 23rd September 1887, making it the fourth oldest university in India after Calcutta, Bombay, and Madras University. The vision of establishing a prominent Central College in Allahabad (now Prayagraj), which would eventually evolve into a university, can be attributed to Sir William Muir, the Lieutenant Governor of the United Provinces. Thanks to his initiative, the foundation stone of the Muir Central College (named in his honor) was laid on December 9, 1873, by His Excellency Lord Northbrook.
