The Andhra University College of Engineering traces its origins back to 1955 when it was established as the Department of Engineering. Prof. Devaguptapu Seethapathi Rao (Electrical) and Prof. Kalavapudi Krishnamacharyulu (Civil Engineering) spearheaded its inception under the leadership of Vice Chancellors V.S. Krishna and A L Narayana. Initially, the department focused on Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical Engineering as its main branches. Prof. D. Seetahpati Rao (Electrical) served as the head of the Department of Engineering until 1966.
