Its establishment is uniquely associated with a significant grassroots movement in the early seventies of the previous century. This movement vividly echoed the collective hopes and ambitions of the local community in the Garhwal region, aspiring for advancement through higher education. The residents of this secluded and historically rich semi-rural town, Srinagar, actively advocated for the establishment of a university.
