Lalit Narayan Mithila University in Kameshwaranagar, Darbhanga, was established as a result of the longstanding aspiration of the people of Mithila. Influential figures like Dr. Amarnath Jha, Dr. R. C. Mazumdar, Dr. A. S. Altekar, Dr. Sunil Kumar Chatterjee, and others advocated for the creation of a modern university in Darbhanga. The demand for such an institution echoed in the state legislature and parliament. The Mithila University Committee was formed on January 27, 1947, with Dr. Amarnath Jha as the President, leading the efforts toward the establishment of the university.
