The Government of West Bengal initiated the establishment of an expert committee on December 31, 1998, chaired by the eminent scientist Ashesh Prasad Mitra. The committee was tasked with exploring the need and potential for creating an Engineering/Technology University in the state.
Formally coming into operation with the appointment of its first Vice Chancellor on January 15, 2001, the university was established following the enactment of THE WEST BENGAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY ACT, 2001 (West Bengal Act XV of 2000) by the West Bengal Legislature.
Transcripts from Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT) contain the marks of each subject from the first to last semester. This is then placed in an envelope which is sealed and stamped/signed across the back-flap.
