The National Institute of Technology (formerly known as Regional Engineering College) Tiruchirappalli, located in the heart of Tamil Nadu on the banks of the river Cauvery, was established as a joint venture of the Government of India and the Government of Tamil Nadu in 1964. With this extensive experience, the institution was granted Deemed University Status in 2003, approved by the University Grants Commission, the All India Council for Technical Education, and the Government of India, leading to its renaming as the National Institute of Technology.
