The National Institute of Technology Patna, established on January 28, 2004, marks the 18th addition to the National Institutes of Technology, under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. It was established through the transformation of the erstwhile Bihar College of Engineering Patna. The roots of NIT Patna trace back to 1886, when it began as a pleaders survey training school, later evolving into the Bihar College of Engineering Patna in 1924. This rich history makes it the 6th oldest engineering institute in India. Over time, the institute expanded its curriculum, progressing from undergraduate to postgraduate levels in 1978.
