Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University) (PEC) traces its origins back to Lahore, initially established as Mugalpura Engineering College in 1921. Later, in 1953, PEC relocated to its present campus and became affiliated with Panjab University. In 2003, it attained Deemed University status through an MHRD notification and was officially named PEC University of Technology in 2009.
Functioning as a Grant-in-Aid institution under the administration of the Union Territory of Chandigarh, Government of India, PEC boasts a 146-acre campus that was once home to Chandigarh College of Architecture. The academic and administrative processes mirror those of prestigious IITs across the country. The institute is governed by a dynamic Board of Governors, chaired by esteemed industrialist Sh. Rajinder Gupta. Heading the institute is a Director with a 5-year tenure, a position equivalent to that of a Vice Chancellor at universities.
