Sri Dev Suman Uttarakhand University was established as a State University of Uttarakhand through the State Government notification No 270/XXXVI(3)/2012/48(1)/2012, dated 19th October 2012. This establishment followed the amendment of the Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyay Uttarakhand Vishwavidhyalaya Act. 2011 (Uttarakhand Act No 22 of 2011), as notified by the State Government vide No 357/XXXVI(3)/2011/57(1)/2010, dated 4th November 2011.
The formation of the University was a significant response to the popular demand, reflecting the aspirations of the people of Garhwal for development through higher education. The establishment in the town of Badshahi Thual, Tehri Garhwal, Uttarakhand, symbolized the community’s desire to empower future generations in overcoming economic and social challenges, addressing geographic and environmental constraints, and reaffirming the cultural identity of local resources for development.
