The Government of Kerala founded and Chief Minister Oommen Chandy inaugurated the Malayalam University on 1 November 2012 at Thunchanparamba, the residence of Thunchath Ezhuthachan in Tirur, Malappuram, Kerala. K. Jayakumar, a retired civil servant from the Indian Administrative Service cadre who served as the Chief Secretary of Kerala until 31 October 2012, prepared the university’s Project Report and became its first Vice-Chancellor.
