The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Amritsar stands as the 15th IIM established by the Ministry of Education (formerly Ministry of Human Resource Development) with the backing of the Government of Punjab. Following the formation of the IIM Amritsar Society on July 27, 2015, the inaugural batch for the class of 2015-17 was admitted in August 2015. Subsequently, on October 14, 2015, the IIM Amritsar Board of Governance & Society was established.
