On January 8, 1947, a significant event marked the emergence of the University of Rajputana, resembling a modest star on the educational horizon of pre-independent India. Today, this very entity, now known as the University of Rajasthan, stands gleaming like a precious diamond in the sky as it celebrates its 68th Foundation Day, having earned the esteemed title of University with Potential for Excellence. Over the years, the university has consistently adapted, redefining itself to align with the evolving trends within the educational system.
A journey down memory lane transports us to the establishment of this university. The vision for a distinct university for the Rajputana State began to take shape as early as 1921, triggered by the Act for Allahabad University. This Act advocated the separation of Intermediate classes from the Degree classes as a prerequisite for affiliation. However, this stipulation translated to increased expenditure for the then-existing colleges in Jaipur, Jodhpur, and Ajmer—the sole colleges providing university education and affiliated with Allahabad University at that time.
